I didn’t know you could still get Porsche 968s for as little as this. You see 944s all the time but I can’t remember the last time I saw a 968.

Every time you see a 924 or 944, you see a 968

Ironically, I just saw a dark blue one yesterday.

I suppose. Everytime I see a Beetle I see a 911.

I’ve never seen a 968 in my entire life. It doesn’t help that they only made about 19 of them.

I saw this one a few weeks ago, before that I completely forgot they existed.

Yeah they are rare in SF and Marin because everyone bought a 911.

I think its been at least two years since I’ve seen one. And I’m no stranger to car shows and Cars & Coffee type stuff

I know! Same with the 993. In all of the 90s, Porsche made about 20 cars. Fantastic but few.

I had a photo of one, but I deleted it thinking that it was a “mere” 944.

I think they are the best looking of the front engine Porsches after seeing that one.

Haha it IS really difficult to tell. I used to work at a dealership and one day a 968 was parked on the back of a trailer in the back of the parking lot. My co-worker said, “oh look a 944" and I stared at it for about 2 minutes before i said, “uhhhh, i think its a 968?”

I agree, although the 928 GTS is a top contender too

I actually saw a 993 in the wild a few months ago. The odd part is that it was raining when I saw it.

I’m just happy people drive them

True. I see Boxsters, Caymans, and 996s all the time, but anything older than that is starting to get uncommon.
I wonder what I’ll see first, a 968 or an NSX. I’ve yet to ever see either one. I also haven’t seen an R32 Skyline yet, but that’ll probably change when I go to Cars & Coffee.

Hahaha, they do get confusing.

I used to work at a Porsche shop/salvage yard. The main consensus we came to, through repairing them, and taking them apart, was that they weren’t built as well as the 944. That combined with the fact that it had a VERY early 90s “plastic” look to it (When compared to the 944s 80s nostalgia look) sealed its fate as a forgotten sports car.

They’re rare! The front end still weirds me out, but I need that engine, heh.

$13.9K? That’s it? I may have to get another one of these, although I won’t do black again. It really is a great drive, and that motor is amazing. It sounds like the giant four that it is, but with those balance shafts it is amazingly smooth, like an I6. I was so accustomed to the sound and the feel of an I6 that there was a bit of cognitive dissonance when driving the 968.
It’s amazing how austere the interior feels. Even my base-model Mazda5 sport feels better equipped, although the Mazda also feels better equipped than the 525i, and the BMW is fully loaded. It is a sports car after all, but things really have changed in 20+ years.

I think the 924, 944 and 968 all suffer with the same front end wierdness. I can never decide if I like the look of the front of my 944. But you are right, the engine in the 968 is MILES ahead of anything else they put in the 924 and 944

Things have certainly changed in the past 20 years! Even in the past 5-10 years, infotainment and equipment has gone nuts.
I’ll never get a black sports car if I can avoid it. Too hot to drive in summer heat. Although I guess I am driving a dark blue summer car right now. Not much different.
